In making a decision as to which Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to purchase, you need to carefully consider the 4 links in the internationally accepted chain of survival – otherwise your investment might be an unwise one. These links are:
- Early Access – (i.e. someone has to be there to help)
- Early CPR

- Investing in an AED is a great step forward, because it can increase the chance of survival for witnessed Cardiac Arrest from 5% to 85% - when combined with the other links in the chain of survival. At this point the rescuer will be instructed to perform CPR. Poor quality compressions will not effectively distribute the blood to these vital organs, and they begin to fail quickly. And about 70% of all CPR is ineffectively performed.

New changes to European Resuscitation Guidelines recommends the use of prompt devices to improve CPR quality. The 500P is outstanding in this regard as it provides real-time feed-back while the rescuer is performing chest compressions. It instructs the rescuer to push harder or softer, faster or slower, and when compressions are being done correctly it will say good compressions. All of this feedback is based on real time cardiac output, that means how well the rescuer is getting the heart to pump blood around the body. This is a lot more accurate than other devices on the market that have a depth sensor which provides an arbitrary depth or pressure measurement regardless of the victims size.
